Two weeks ago I joined Juicero’s Health Habit Reboot Challenge. What exactly did this challenge entail? The challenge (opportunity for growth) was to replace a not so healthy habit with a nutrient dense organic juice instead. 1st step: Identify not so healthy habit. Instead of the cocktail at night – maybe it is time to sub in a green juice? Or perhaps, instead of that ritualistic morning cup of joe switch it up for a fresh juice instead?
Immediately I knew what I needed to do. I needed to swap in a green juice for my morning coffee fix. Enter: this variety of healthy sweetness.
haha, I know my fellow coffee lovers — I feel you…but here’s the deal, my body had been telling me that I needed to ground down instead of speed up. And, it was time to listen. So, I’ll ask you — are you listening to your bodies innate wisdom??
How has the challenge played out mentally, emotionally, physically for me?
Day 1. On day uno, I was riding a wave of excitement because I knew that I was in alignment in making this decision. Green Juice felt good in my cells. My energy levels were stable (even in the afternoon).
Day 3. This is when I started to hit a wall….haha you know the caffeine headaches, and the, “I’ll just have a sip” talk started to rise up. This was the “drink coffee now” pattern in my brain fighting for attention. I stuck to my commitment – and sipped on some extra green juice instead.
Day 6. I started to get in the new groove of doing things. Opting for the juice became easier, and my mind became clearer. Less resistance, more flow for sureeee.
Day 10 ++ Since day 10 and on, my energy levels have been soaring, and I feel more grounded in my abilities to do the creative work I do. I’m on fire basically – in a really great & aligned way.
What I learned about life in the process.
As a Certified Health Coach & straight up research geek – I am all about experiments. Experimenting with certain foods, different work out routines, and a multiple of self-care practices ensures that I am always on my toes & open to discover what feels well & good in my body. I’m open to change & upgrades when it comes to my health & well-being because it is my number 1 value. Without it, I’m not gifting others with my best self….and what’s the point of a living at 50%. Not for me, I’m all in.
In one of my more drastic self-experiments, I gave up time (yes, time – the clock) and started to listen to my bodies signs of hunger or when it was tired instead of relying on the time to dictate my innate needs. During this experiment with time, I realized just how dependent I was on the hour to make my decisions for me. I was in a way addicted to the certainty of the clock and what I made it mean about my levels of hunger, what I needed to do next, and when it was okay to rest, eat, sleep, move, etc. Less mental energy in making decisions — but at the cost of my own bodies needs was no longer an option after that one.
I’ll be honest, these lifestyle shifts aren’t always a walk in the park. There’s a reason the diet, fitness, and recovery industries are overflowing with dollar bills. It clear – changing our lifestyle habits can pose as a serious challenge.
But why? Because, we are having to re-wire our brains in the process. Habits are loops in our brains in which our mental energy funnels…so when we have deeply engrained patterns – ways of doing things – it can be a challenge to just change & re-route all of this mental energy in one day. We are having to find a new way of dealing with emotions. A new motivator. Not one that lets fear make all the decisions but instead one of love.
When we chunk it down and make it one or two habit upgrades at a time we make it easier on ourselves by crowding out with nutritious and life-affirming choices. Let’s shift the guiding questions to, “If I believed I was enough, what would I do?” “If I loved myself, and cared for my body, mind, and soul what choice would I make?”
We create a new lifestyle – choice by choice. The key here is consistency + a commitment to your values. There is no quick fix cleanse, detox, or diet that is going to bring you sustainable change without the foundation of a daily routine that is based on the deeper connection you have with you. When we honor our bodies we are ultimately telling the world that we honor life. This is the space we all need to call home.
It’s a lifestyle – jump on board.
